Tech News Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple's CEO today, August 31, ending a 15-year run at the world's most closely watched technology company. Beginning September 1, Apple's longtime hardware engineering chief John Ternus will become CEO, while Cook moves into the role of executive chairman. Cook became Apple's CEO in August 2011 after Steve Jobs stepped down. He took over during one of the most closely watched leadership transitions in technology, and went on to lead Apple through a period of enormous expansion.
